    yamaha apex 4 cyliner

i have a 2007 Yamaha apex 4 stroke 4 cylinder that has a starting issue. got it few weeks ago owner said it has a new battery. i found it to always start slow (starter turn over sluggish) sometimes not enough for it to even start. checked the battery showed the year 18 on it and says 220 cold cranking amps so not a new battery. but charged it up showed 12.8 before i charged it and 12.9 after charging but still have the same result. all my battery and starter cables are good n tight. i can see the starter so shouldn't be too hard to replace if so. wondering if this sounds like a starter on its way out maybe? maybe i need to buy a new factory battery and try from there.

Hey Curtis. Good to hear from you. Put a set of jumper cables on that battery and then try to crank it. If that doesn't change anything, and you're sure all the cables and connections are clean, pull the starter and take it apart. You might find the brushes are worn out or other problems inside such as dragging caused by worn bearings/bushings.

ok i will try this. im so centered on it being the battery because im so used to the old clicking or turning over sometimes as a starter gone bad issue. anything's possible i guess luckily for me the starter is just under the breather!

sounds like a bad ground to me. remove and clean ALL connections from the battery to the starter both positive and negative
