I just recently purchased a Max IV and it ran great but I let a friends son take it for a ride but the next day I found that it would not turn to the left. I am not sure what to look for but all chains and sprokets are on and working OK. My thought is it may be a band but dont know anything about the T-20 Trans. Does anybody have any suggestions? I already have the engine pulled and can see the T-20. I appreciate any help.
Follow the linkage from the laterals and the shifter back to the T20 and make sure they are connected and not binding. Make sure the diamond shifters are actually moving when you shift. If they are, pull the diamond shifter out of the left side of the T20 and inspect the shift pin to see if it is still there and not worn. If it is, manually shift the T20 with a screwdriver while you have the diamond shifter removed. If you can shift it manually and it still won't turn left then you probably have a damaged band or drum.
There are a lot of existing threads on this topic with more detailed responses if you use the search. Good luck.
Thanks Mike and Shane
I pulled the diamond shifters and they both look good. I tightened the bolt on the left band and put engine back in but no luck. I guess I will remove engine again and take out T-20 to open up and replace bands. Does anyone have a idea on the best place to get replacement bands and about how much they should cost? Thanks to everyone as this site has been a great toll for a new 6X6 owner. Also if any other Illinois 6X6 owners get together for rides I would be very interested in going on a group ride once my Max IV is back up and running.
