  • Sucking

So today I decided to attempt to change the oil on my T20, First I tried to suck the oil out of the top hole, but couldn't even get the (fairly small) pipe to go down into the transmission, so does the trans have to be in forward/reverse/or neutral for the pipe to go in? Or what am I doing wrong.
So then I pushed my Maxll up on ramps and drained approx 28oz, then I rolled the vehicle onto the flat surface, and topped the trans up, funny thing is it didn't take very much until it started coming out of the bottom hole.
So my question is.... What am I doing it wrong?
Sorry if this all sounds confusing but it's the best way I can explain it.

You should suck the fluid out through the bottom hole. The top one is for the vent plug and for filling the T20. I just change mine like you ended up doing though, by elevating the front of the machine.

The T20 holds 1 quart of fluid. If it is level, that is the amount it should take before it starts coming out of the bottom hole if the T20 is empty. So, as far as filling the T20 up, you did it correctly.

I just did my first T-20 fluid change not too long ago. It was pretty hard to get access to the lower plug in my Buffalo truck, but it was possible. Basically, I took a cheap transfer pump that I bought at work (link below) and I adapted the red plastic hose that came with it down to clear 1/4'' fuel line because it is small and very flexible. I was able to feed the clear fuel line through the lower plug hole and was able to pump pretty much all of the fluid out of it. It didn't look like the fluid had been changed in a verrryyyyyy long time and I got about a quart out of it using this method. I am sure other guys will chime in that have done a lot more of these fluid changes than me, but this is what worked out for me and my first experience with it.

Thanks so much, I must of misread someone's instructions, trying to suck the oil out of the top hole, thanks again.
I feel a tad bit smarter than I did an hour ago.

I change the fluid in my t20 using a small vaccum pump, I had to squeeze the end of the hose flat first to get it started in. Once it strated in, hose went right in pulled out 28 oz. from the bottom hole. Got pump at local home store, worked great.

This is how I drain my machines. It leaves no doubt that all the old fluid comes out.
Just hook the winch cable to the garage ceiling or use a good sized tree limb and let the winch do the work.

I replace the lower fitting with a ball valve and a hose barb. It's much easier to get to the valve and you can run a piece of hose into a ziplock bag or run the hose out of the drain hole in the tub. I use the winch to lift the machine.

I bought a 9/16", 3/8" drive 8 point socket, fits the square plugs on the t-20 perfectly. 8 pt sockets are rare but you can find them online.
