  • Max wheels bolt pattern???

What is the bolt pattern for our 5-lug Max wheels, and what's the stock, K-lock steel wheel backspacing??

    Thanks

Argo and max and mudd ox are 4&1/2" circle.. I think all argo, max, and mud ox wheels have no offset on the back spacing. I'm guessing on max, though.

      YES!!!

Thank you very much for that data confirmation, Roger! Now I know I can fit 5-4.5 SuperGrip BLADE aluminum wheels, mounted onto a fresh set of Vampire ASX tires - once Interco ramps production back up. Oh well... there goes next year's income tax refund.

Let's see... If I get those big honkin' ASX tires, I'll have to get extensions to space them out from the body, correct? So... maybe I should do some web searching and see if there's a company that makes 5-bolt hub extensions that also convert the lug pattern from 5 bolt to 4 bolt?!? (Can anybody save me some time and confirm this???)

Boy, that would really make shopping for aftermarket quad wheels easy!!!

        Hey Harry,
Not sure on that extension question but maybe these templets will help if you decide to make some. You could possible use the dimension of the 5 and put it with the 4 or vise versa. To get the 4/5 conversion.

        3 lug to 5

        3 lug to 4

I have six new ASX tires , mounted on new 12 " inch K-rims ,on one of my Hustler Deep tub 980,s. There is plently of tire clearance on each of the axles. The only ASX tire that is really close to the lower tub ,is the drivers side rear. This particular spot has been pushed out to allow for motor pully clearance. The drivers side rear tire has about one inch of lower tub clearance, but all of the other ASX tires have about 5-6 inches clearance away from the lower tub.
            Hey mudbug,
I believe its for his max IV.

I see there making new size. I was was wrong with thinking there was only one size. Or I just looked up the wrong tire? Edit-Thought I would edit that this site is wrong. Still only 26" as stated by Mike below

Don't believe that site. They have the regular Vampires listed as Vampire ASX tires. It is really confusing for people.

The ASX is still only made in a 26" version (for now): TSL Vampire ASX | Interco Tire

Ok thanks Mike. I know you guess know but Ill post that through that site I just figure out the asx is asymmetric. Extra side lugs on the outside edge of tire. So you need L and R tires. Thats whats different about those and the plain vamps.

                  LarryW,

Thanks for the correction. I was thinking that he owned a Hustler 980.

I only WISH that I also owned a 980 Bigfoot! Maybe someday when I get a pole barn built I'll finally have enough space to start collecting a few classics: Attex SuperChief, Hustler 980, SPD Wedge, (maybe even a Gotcha and a Tri-Cart just for the heck of it). But mercy, nothing like the huge amassed fleet that Amphiman has!

Anyhow, yes the info I'm collecting is for 'pimping' my new Max IV. I'd like to maybe keep the stock steel K-lock rims & 26" GoodYear TerraGrips for when I know I'll be doing lots of water fording, but have the lighter SuperGrip wheel/ASX combo for "normal" riding, which for me is rolling hills with lots of loose sandy topsoil with some scrub brush & seasonal muddy stuff thrown in. I just like the idea of not worrying about wheels rusting by going with aluminum, plus they'll hopefully be a little lighter than the steel rims, which will help offset the added weight of those heavy ASX skins. I wonder though if the SuperGrip rims are a beadlock design, or am I gonna hafta worry about tires popping off the beads if I have them aired down too low?? Jeez... now that I think about it, what ply rating are those ASX tires anyhow??? 4ply or 6ply? (Nevermind. I just checked... they're 4ply)

I was surprised to actually find aluminum rims in a bolt pattern that would fit our rigs (5-4.5) but I have been looking in the wrong places, I guess. I have always looked for quad ATV rims. Then while surfing the Modern Tire website I accidentally clicked on side-by-side ATV/UTV rim info and BANG! there it was. Only 2 choices but hey, it's a start! BTW... for those interested here's a link to those SuperGrip BLADE rims (stock# 12-7C120-MA): BLADE MACHINED at Modern Tire Company

If you go back to the ATV wheels option on the toolbar, navigate thru the dropdown menus and select the 12" UTV Mule, Gator, RTV option. There you'll find they also have the 5-STAR rims that Matt. O has on that tricked-out Mudd-Ox of his. The BLADE wheels come in machined finish ($67/ea) or polished finish ($70/ea.); the 5-STAR wheel for some reason only shows the 5-4.5 lug pattern available in polished ($77/ea.). Don't know if the black machined wheels are only available in 4-bolt patterns or if the 5-bolt is just sold out right now?? Those are the ones Matt. O has, so they must make them in 5-bolt, too. Either Modern Tire just doesn't carry them or perhaps Matt paid extra to get the black machined rims drilled for 5-lug?

I didn't do much more investigation beyond that, so there may be other webstores that offer 5-bolt aluminum wheels. It was kinda late when I happened across the Modern Tire site. I was just happy to find what I was looking for, and too tired to keep plowing through other sites to look for others.
