  • revving a bandolero in neutral

... I live in Canada where throttle cable freezing will happen. So what will happen to an ungoverned bandolero engine if the throttle jam open and I pull the T-20 levers to quickly stop the machine ?

    valve float, broken pushrods ?

    burst in flames ?

i would not do that i would turn the key off first...i think the engine would handle the high
rpm for several seconds before you shut the ignition down..the other thing would be
a clutch coming apart if ran to high to long

it's just that a wide open throttle Bandolero make the ignition key rather hard to reach....

Well, I would turn the key off first... then worry about pulling the laterals back to stop it. Is this just a hypothetical question?

Bigfoot note.. Just reread your post & it says if revving a Bandolero in Neutral. If this is the case, I wouldn't be worried about stopping it with the sticks, cause it ain't going anywhere.

if its going to be a worry to you, you could get one of those ign key kits that when yanked on will
kill the engine..but i think you have to teather it to your wrist..
you didnt already do something bad did you

i was able to reach the ignition after 2 whellies because to reach the phucking key, you have to let go one of the sticks ....

I THINK, I will install a small kill button ON TOP of one of the stick like the missile launcher button we saw in a picture a couple month ago.

scary how torquey the Bandorelo is....

The shimmed briggs valve springs will float about 6000 rpm when they are new. The Bando service book says to replace valve springs every three races 6000 is about when the stock rods go through the block.

That's why I prefer to build my own engine with billet rods and aftermarket valve springs. It could sit in nuetral and run 8000 and not hurt itself.

There's a rev limiter in the works on another forum, maybe that will be what 'ya need.

I have the heated cable but it happened 2 minutes after start-up. I think I will add a stiffer throttle return spring....

600 racing sells a 5600 RPM rev limiter for the Bandolero motor. I think it is around $100. I purchased one when I purchased my first motor but never used it. I was in a hurry to get everything put in before going to on a ride and only temporarily wired it in. It was acting weird so I just took it out of the system since I was in a hurry and I haven't touched it since.

I didn't spend any time troubleshooting it but I would assume it would work fine. That may be an option for you.

Here is wiring diagram showing how their rev limiter fits in the system:

kill button on top of the laterals would be a choice since you have the laterals in your hands. Run it through the lateral tube and out the bottom( through new drilled hole) with a disconnect for when you have to remove the sticks. A stuck throttle is a scary thing. I have double return springs just in case one breaks, i will have a back up. Little tip from Race which i thought was a great idea.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

it's just that when it went WOT, the max wanted to GTFO of the garage pulling wheelies in the process

the door was open and my helper was on the side so nothing was in the missile trajectory

but it as an eye opening experience; we learned that the bandolero is a serious engine needing some serious springs to hold it back...

it's the first time I can powerslide an AATV, even in snow...
