  • 2006 Avenger 700 Idler gears and shaft change out.

Just finished changing out my right idler gear and shaft. Couldn’t see much wear with the chains on but noticed a tooth with a broken edge. Removed the gear and found quite a few teeth rounded off. Decided to pull the idler shaft and found one tooth partially broken also. Since I finished the right side i’m Going to go a head and do the left side as well. I’m using the chain wax on my chains along with some chain graphite. This chain wax from my Argo dealer is expensive, any suggestions on other types of chain lube on the market that a guy could use? I lube about every ten hrs operation. Maybe fatigue being 2006?

How many hours on machine? I had a customer in last year with 2200 hours on a 05 avenger. Did a couple wheel bearings and nothing else worn out. He uses chain saw bar oil and that vehicle has nice chains and sprockets.

Chain stretch can contribute to sprocket wear.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
      Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

On your 06, does the sprocket on the front axle float? If it is supposed to and isn't that may contribute to it too. I found mine were a little gummed up over the years and wound up having to replace a couple of sprockets last fall. The sprocket on the idler shaft from the transmission should also have a little side to side movement, and move fairly easily.
