CCW engines were very popular in the heyday of snowmobiles the 1970's. They were used in a lot of machines. I have a few 440s in my Raider snowmobiles(ok,12 of them at last count). John Deere also use them

Did you set the gap on the points?
When you say intermittent spark ....is it both plugs or just 1 that has no spark.

ok, so i re-checked my point gaps then cleaned the mounting bosses for the coils and then it fired right up on ether. now i need to sort out the tillotson carb. i may just take the mikuni off my 69 yamaha dirtbike for a tmporary solution. it has the correct mounting flange and everything

Ditching a Tilliotson or Walboro carburetor for a Mikuni is the best possible move you could make. Those other carburetors are junk and they're extremely unreliable.

Raiders were ahead of their time and really cool. We had a first gen 440 and second gen Eagle 440. The Eagle had maybe 12 miles when i sold it to a collector upstate.in the late 90's.

so i have been tinkering with this thing a little bit and i have it running pretty good. the clutch seems to work when you rev it up and everything. now i just need to get a fuel pump and get this thing back in the machine and go for a test drive

                  Did you change the carb?
If you use the tillotson carb you dont need a fuel pump.
Replace the fuel line and filter and run the return line back to the tank.

im not going to waste any time on the tillotson carb right now. i used my 1969 yamaha carb to get it running and it works well so ill try to find something similar i have a few old jet skis and im going to use the fuel tank out of one of those in it. i think it eill fit fine. i havent looked too closely yet but i may find that they have a fuel pump in them somewhere
