  • I have a friend who traveled 165 mph on his Yamaha from Lake tahoe to Davis calif on hwy 50 he spent many weekends in jail for that one. If you look at my pics in the gallery you will see the 3 wheeler I made for the Glamis sand dunes. I was a Honda shop Mechanic just when the cb 450 came out. I can"t just use v belts on my pump drive remember I need to reverse the rotation and dont want any slip in the drive so I need a double sided cog belt I just dont know yet if I need a 3/4" wide or 1" will do for the hp and torq.

    • Hey Rodp what bikes are you guys riding over there, mostly Brittish or have they imported all the jap bikes and German as well? What does Gas cost? I'm paying $3.19 per gal. right now. Diesel is $3.79 My brother just got back from England Where he visited the church where our great Grand father was the pastor back in the 1860s.

      • Hi Chris, mostly Jap imports with the bikes now. Diesel is £6.40+ per gallon and petrol only a few pence cheaper. Even stuff like engine oil is around the £15 / £25 gallon mark, everything is so expensive over here now.
Gas and electric at home is astronomical now they've sold all the energy companies to foreign owners. It has reached the stage, and I'm not exaggerating here, where some families have to choose whether to heat the home or eat a meal !
This country is in dire straits and it's not getting any better. We have another slump in business that they will not admit to, there's just no trade anywhere. The nearest big town to me, Dudley, has 30% of the shops closed. The council have taken to covering the windows with stickers etc to make them look used. The local mall has empty units everywhere that no-one wants to rent and some of these are quite large, that's a lot of empty space.
Yet they still pay millions in bonuses to bankers that we bailed out and own, IE, failed bankers that are proven by recent past history to be no good at their jobs ?? Figure that one out !! How do you get a bonus when you've failed ???

Where's this church then that's part of your history ? Do you still have family over here?

          • Rodp Bury St Edmonds is where the church is and we probubly do have family there, but we don't know them. Whats the exchange rate english pounds to american $.

            • Chris, about $1.5 to the £1 so it would make fuel almost $10 a gallon over there at out prices. You tend to plan trips

Bury St Edmonds is a place I've never been I must admit, never seemed to be a place with any landmarks to visit for some reason.
Did your brother visit any of the big cathedrals over here, amazing places when you stop and think they got all those blocks of stone way up there on timber scaffold?

              • Wow thats expensive It would cost me $110.00 to fill walleys gas tank. push mowers would be popular again.
Yes my brother did see and take pics of some cathedrals which ones I dont know. When he goes on vac he almost always goes out of country to Spain or Australia, taiwan,Israel or wherever he wants to visit. He makes good money and has a lot of vac. time. He is a nuclear reactor operator at san onofre nuc power station in San Diego California.
listening to you describe your countrys problems makes an American really think how lucky it is to be an American every fri I watch many people go by on the road with campers boats dirt bikes quads Motor homes and big 4x4 trucks going to have fun on the weekend. Last weekend I ran thru 35 gals of diesel on my trip. Then there is deer season here where almost everybody is out there shooting a deer and almost all eat them. I myself have about 10 guns and used to have 15 horses on my property in calif. We americans really take for granted our good fortune and freedom some times.

                • I took Walley to Beaver lake today wanted to try out the pump All worked flawless but I traveled really slow maby 3mph at high rpm 2500 rpm = 4000 rpm on the pump. 2000 pounds 8 inches in to the water is hard to push. At idle it moves about 1/2 mph and isnt a load on the motor. I got up and went to the back and watched the pump as it idled thru the lake no air bubbles at all were being pumped so no cavitation and there was no problem reaching top motor rpm so it isnt loaded enough I need to be able to spin the pump at 6000 to 7000 rpm before I give up on the pump drive and go to a prop. I was testing this before I had the chance to install the intake screen it sucked up a piece of wood and tore out my rubber coupling from the crank to the clutch. I have to learn to be patient, that was a $ 7.00 item. I did get some films but they are from the drivers seat.

                  • So far I'm just waiting for my new sprocket to arrive in the mail 35 tooth driving a 12 tooth thats 2.91 over drive so at 2650 rpm (max torq) the pump will turn 7700 rpm. with an intake screen!!! If I dont like this I will start with an 8 inch prop right inside of that square hole in the back where the pump is right now. Water can come up behind the prop thru the hole where the pump gets it now. If thats not fast enough then I will put an universal joint on the shaft and tilt the prop to below the hull. I just finished my electro hydraulics class learned a lot about hydraulics and how to control it in a industrial enviroment With relay logic or a plc multiple pressure circuits, pump unloading, Rapid traverse slow feed. It was a lot of fun setting up these circuits and running them.

                    • Hey guys check out "surplus center" for bearings chain and sprockets.

                      • Hi Chris, I think you already know this but the maximum hull speed is 1.34 x the square root of your water line length for displacement hulls. So if I guess your Lwl is 12', then 1.34 x 3.4 = 4.5 mph. But keep trying you may break a law of physics, lol. I don't know if you seen the video but this was the first test of the then "new" 25" Argo tires. The best we got was 3.4 mph, not bad for just tires.

Everybody thinks their's is really fast until a GPS tells you differently.

                        • I'm still working up to this speed with my trials I havent yet hit 4.5 Can't we just rearange the formula? Why do physics get in the way of dreams?

                          • Has anyone tried that 2 part foam that expands and then floats to make there AATV more boyant and thus lowering the water line? This should allow for more speed in the water.
6X6 toys...... now THAT is down right American!

                            • Where below the water line could you put it that would displace more water?. This stuff would( if you used enough) keep you from sinking below the surface in an emergency. In my case even if I could float a little higher the water line length would get shorter thus thru the formula of fixed hull displacement I would go slower. If you cant push yourself over your bow wave ( plane) get used to going slow. Right now I'm just trying to reach the 4.5 mph by using all my avail H.P.

                              • Hey Ray good guess at my water line it is exactly 12' so the formula works out to be 4.641 mph you see I can already go a little faster lol. got my sprocket today testing this sat.
