  • Went to deer camp for the first time in probably 10 years or so and forgot how much fun it was. We all took to the woods around midnight with spotlights, dogs and cold snacks in the cooler. The kids were all riding 4 wheelers while we were in side-by-sides. to make a long story short I ended up coming across a 1996 Argo conquest 8x8 with just under 108 hrs with an aftermarket fiberglass shell with 3 doors, winch, windshield and bilge pump for $4600. He was asking 6k. I discovered the charging issues myself and then affirmed them on this site. The alternator kit is in route. The is is how I came to be here. I love this aatv!
The sun came out the other day
    Through those dusty clouds
And in my mind I was a child
    And it felt good!

    Ain't life grand

    • Hello everyone,
My name is Dave and I live in Texas. I have been into riding and fixing ATV's for quite some time. I just recently purchased a 2009 Max II with a Vanguard 18hp V-Twin to use for a youth hunting and fishing club that I am an outfitter for. It had been sitting for 2 years and I have drained all the gas, dropped the gas tank, cleaned, and replaced all of the gas lines. I Got it to run but cannot get it to stay running. I am thinking it is the carburetor. I do not know the motor number because I think I have to take the body off to find it (If I don't please tell me how and where to find it or what series it is). I have the carburetor numbers but cannot find one that matches the numbers (also, any help in this area will be greatly appreciated) The carb #610027-302 and 808880-8019 (could be 608880-8019) but nothing pulls up and I do not know what parts to get to finish. Actually I found a lot of carbs but they say will not work on this or that so I am hesitant. I have been looking on this forum and found all the adjustments and diagrams (which are fantastic) just need a little guidance on what and where to purchase a carburetor. Thanks for letting me join!

      • Welcome off2theboat, there is a metal tag on the right side(back side of Max) engine shroud that will list the engine model (ie.350447), type and code on it.

              • Hello, my name is Cliff. I just bought an Argo Vanguard 2 so i joined the group. Good thing i did because the second day owning it the engine went teets up. I'm going through threads now to see how I want to handle the replacement.

Just joined 6x6, the site is amazing. I bought a new Argo in 1998, a 580 6x6 Frontier. I have the 18" super tracks and ice cleats. And the outboard motor bracket. I also have a 2002 700 Polaris
Sportsman, and if I had to sell one of them, I would get rid of the Polaris. There isn't any where that it can't go through or get stuck, I'm just amazed. The only places it won't go is where the
DNR has placed no riding signs or where it might tear up an area where delicate wetlands are not to be disturbed.
I look forward to talking with others and reading the forums. Thanks, Shady

                      • Hey guys! I just picked up my first 6x6! It's a 97 max ii. In great shape just needs a little tinkering. I was wondering if there are many people from central Illinois on here?

Chris, welcome to the forum. With the tracks, you are limited in water speed. If you don't need them, there are tires that will propel you faster without the tracks. If you do need them, perhaps an auxiliary motor would come in handy?
