  • Title or Registration Requirements - Ohio

Since the Max I'm looking at doesn't have a VIN, only a serial number, how do you go about getting a Title and Registration or is it even required?

I can't seem to find a reasonable answer in the Ohio Law...

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Take care,

    Ken

I have read that link, and the actual Ohio Revised Code referenced, but there are no clear answers just very vague descriptions on requirements loosely related to the classification or category of AATV's.

Since you are in Ohio, what did you do?

Thanks for trying to help and take care,

In Wisconsin I have to Register them as a boat or they won't allow them on the water, No VIN numbers on any boat I know of. just a Serial number

I live in Shelby County Ohio. I spoke to all the government agencies. Even had to call Columbus a couple times. If you only ride on private land with no water ways, you don't have to do anything. If you have to cross a road technically you need an atvs registration. If you take it in any public waterways even a creek (which are considered public water ways) you need a boat registration and displayed hull Id.
What I had to do was get a notarized bill of sale, call Argo and get an original bill of sale (basically just verifying the serial number), then took that and a check book down to the BMV. Took the. About 20 min to get it all figured out. But basically if you want to register it as a boat you have to also register it as an Atv. So I have both. And they printed me a fancy new title.

LOL,that's why some attend Ivy League collages and take the BAR exam. I,again, will not be of much assistance here. I only have one of my toys registered w/Ohio BMV and the Div. of Watercraft, that would be my 2001 Argo Conquest that has a conventional title associated to it. I,at one time, was considering registering my Honda TRX200,28 yrs old, never having any sort of title. After reviewing the Code and confiding with a relative in the Law Enforcement community this was my conclusion. Let's see, jump through flaming hoops and pay a fee for a sticker that gives me the privileged to do what? Pay more fees to access some crappy public land most likely heavily patrolled by authorities drooling to cite folks like my self to keep our old broken up junk off of their trails. Oh,and furthermore, have to carry insurance (on another ATV) now or risk being selected in their "lottery" to show proof of or lose my drivers licence!?! I have more than enough headaches,I think I'll stick to riding on private property or on the backroads of the more "ATV friendly" communities here in our beautiful state. Sorry for the rant. I recall choosing the s/n method to attempt this before I scrubbed the idea.

Thanks guys for the real world experience.

I am picking up my MAX IV later this week and will decide after I've had it for a little while before jumping into the title/registration void - especially since its an out-of-state vehicle with just a bill of sale...

              Take care,

I bought my machine in North Carolina. Don't matter if it's out of state. If you get your bill of sale notorized, it will be a long way. Even if it's just a matter of having to prove ownership if it's ever stolen. Just a thought.
