  • First Gen attex Questions for the Pro-Builders..

Hey guys, i know searching is a valuable function amongst us avid forum users, however sometimes finding the info needed is more of a pain than it is to just ask, and wait for the guru's to chime in...

Helping a fellow attex owner rebuild his 208tt. Its got 1 inch axles, and the large outter bearing flanges/housings. By the looks of things, the inner and outter might be the same? however neither of us have yet tried to remove the outters from the housings. The inners are a Strait, "Press Into Holder" style bearing. Not rounded outter cage like the latter machines. anyone got part numbers for said bearings? Also, some new inner "flanges" might be instore for this gentleman as well.. On another note, do the outter bearings "press" out of the large outter housings? or whats up with that? we tried pounding on a junk axle shaft to try and remove it in that manner, however, we didnt try to terribly hard cuz we were not sure and didnt want to damage anything.

As for big questions, i'd say this is the biggest one of all. and mainly the most hard to figure out by any means. His frame will need to be replaced as well, seeing as its pretty well shot also. but that will be done in time.

all input is greatly appreciated guys! Thanks much!!

    Hi Mustang,
Someone will probably give you the correct part numbers, but for my 300ST I ordered all new brg's w/flanges from Surplus Center - Hydraulics, Engines, Electrical and More
The bolt patterns did not exactly line up, but I am not above making modifications to save a few $. I replaced the axles and wheels also, and I was not sucessful in removing the outer flanges/brgs off the axles. After 40 years of service I did not put much effort into taking them apart, I just replaced them.

Ok, so got the flanges apart, the outters are similar to mine..however they seem to have a LONGER inner race for the locking collar. i would assume this is so that the seal that goes in the housing has somewhere to ride? so.....anyone got part numbers for such bearings? or even for the seal?

Whipper!! wow kinda feel honored to have you post on my problem. lol dont take that as an insult, you just come across to me as a mechanical genius! lol only guy i know that made a springer kit for the buggys..i mean..dang! lol but yah..i been looking around on ebay and such, i found the actual bearings that it takes, but from what ive also read and found..there is supposed to be a "collar" that rides on the outside of the bearing?..so that the rubber seal has a surface to ride on and keep shmegg out of the bearing housing? These first gen attex's are kinda odd...now i see why they switched to the regular style bearings like on my chief. alot less messing around!! easier to find parts also..

hey, i found one of your threads that has pictures of some SUPER awesome bearings made by another forum member.. Their a double bearings setup with big steel cage with grease holes in it..they make those for my chief yet? and hey..do you have a website for products that you've got available? just curious.. i wouldnt mind maxing out my credit card on some neat accessories. haha, let me know whipper! thanks!

Not sure if this helps or not but did you see this thread? The seals can be bought at napa. I just took one in and they measured it. I priced them and cant remember how much they where. I should have gotten a napa number too but didnt. I have run them without the seals though. Just make sure you have a sealed bearing.
