  • Removing axle ring?

I removed both set screws and I tried banging the eccentric ring off both ways with a center punch and its not budging. What gives? Am I missing something?

    Keep hitting it.

If both set screws are out, try liberal amounts of WD40, penetrating oil and a little heat from a propane torch never hurts. A lot of them can be a real bear to get off, but it sounds like you're headed in the right direction. When I replace locking collars, I try to remember to always set the eccentric collars to the back, so I (usually) know to remove them by tapping forward.

It hit it with PB Blaster and a propane torch! I'm ready to just cut the axle and sprocket tube...

You can also use a pipe wrench.

I'll give the pipe wrench a try! Thanks Mike. I hope the inner one is easier to get off.

I ended up just cutting the sprocket tube and axle. I couldn't get those damn rings to budge. When I get the new sprocket tube back from the machine shop the vehicle will be up for sale! Its a 4-stroke converted Superchief with an 18hp Briggs Vanguard.
