  • 93 vanguard front axle removal

Trying to remove my front left axle to troubleshoot in/out play on the axle. There is also up/down movement so I'm think a bearing issue as well.

So I loosened the locking collar next to sprocket but I still can't get the axle to come out. Is there a set screw on the bearing that has to be loosened to let the axle to come out?

Space is very limited in this area and hard to get at. I've removed exhaust shroud and drive belt to make it easier.

    Any tips would be appreciated.

Btw there is a keyway there as well

    Thanks

If your inner bearing has a 2 bolt flange the bearing will have an eccentric locking collar also with one set screw, if it has a 4 bolt flange it will have 2 set screws and perhaps a 3/8 bolt on the inside end of axle. You will also have to remove the nuts/bolts from outer bearing flange.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

I found it. it was the 2 set screws on the outer bearing not tightened. No in/out play now.
