Just bought a 98 Argo conquest . Has the Kawasaki fd 620d . 1200 hrs . Was running good then it just died . I replaced the fuel pump ?. Pulled and cleaned carb ?. Has been plugs and sparks on both plugs . Won?t start on ether ?. I suspect timing issue . I understand some of these pre 1999 Kawasaki engines have a plastic cam gear . I suspect this is my issue ? Any thoughts ? Thanks a ton !
The Kawis are awesome engines, but they hate bad/old gas. If the machine didn't have good gas that had stabilizer in it your carb might be gummed up. Very common. Or they can throw a rod when gummed up as stated above.
Do you have spark and compression? If so pour fuel in the carb and see if it runs momentarily. I’ve had at least a dozen older conquests that will run and die. Very small office on the inlet to carb that get a piece of hose in it and you can’t force fuel into it. The way I found first one was carefully removing top of carb when dead. No fuel in the bowl. If that is it, replace all fuel hose from tank to carb. Check spark and compression first. Good luck.
