Hi Guys,
My 84 Argo pops out of low gear usually going up hill or with a load. No problem when I am in high gear
Asy suggestions or solutions?

A couple possible ideas:
The trans is not fully engaged in low gear and kicks out.
The gears inside the trans are worn, and kicking apart
Both scenarios are not uncommon.

Yes what RD said, and don't be afraid to open up your tranny yourself, there really is not much in there to go wrong, just keep track of how it came apart

Thanks RD and Eightwheeler,
I will open up the tranny to see what's going on. It sounds like the gear is worn.
Cheers.
I have the same Problem.
What have you made?? Is the problem solved now??
Had you opened the gear??
I am heading to the dealer today to pick up a fuel filter and fuel pump repair kit. I will get a price on a new low gear for replacement. I use my ARGO mostly in the winter so I have not been in a hurry to fix this problem.
Went to the local Argo dealer yesterday and got a quote for parts to replace the worn low gear. Had a chance to speak to the head Argo mechanic and he said it is definitly the idler gear. He said this part will wear out on most argo's because it's location in the gear box is away from the oil bath and when you worm up the engine this gear turns with out lubrication. The problem starts with the low gear popping out then followed in time by reverse gear popping out. The new replacement gear comes with a needle bearing insert to replace the existing bushing.
Also he suggested I remove the worn gear and bring it in so they can match the proper size gear for replacment. It is also recommended to replace all seals at the same time since the gear box will be opened up.
This will be my project in October since I didn't get a moose tag
Dave, many people with Argo's add Lucas oil additive to their tranny to prevent dry start ups. My friend the Argo Dealer does this as standard practice.
Thanks Bushwacker. I do use Lucas oil but the damage has been done prior to me purchasing the Argo.
Cheers.
Thanks for Information.
Up to now I did not have the problem yet in the reverse gang.
As long as it not seems constantly I leave it for the moment so.
