    power problems

    I have a 16HP Vanguard B&S that has problems going up steep hills it stalls or drops power like it is flooded ,its ok if i hold the throttle wide open most of the time but on rough ground this is not possible ,any one have this problem? i have a new fuel pump,new fuel filter,new carburetor and no problems under load on flat ground.

    What model Argo do you have? The carburetor is probably just being staved of fuel due to gravity. You may need to add an auxiliary electric fuel pump. There are a few members that have added them to their Argos. They turn them on before they start up steep hills. Search the forums, some of the threads should have part numbers and more details.

    Thanks Mike ,it is an old 1992 B&S Vanguard with 900 hours ,i have tried the electric fuel pump and all that happens is it floods the engine when the old carburetor was fitted i might try it with the new carburetor.

    Make sure its a low pressure pump, no more than 5 psi

    What Zuk said for sure E Bay is a good source for those or a RV place the gas Genny,s in most old coaches are electric fuel pumps and low pressure the "pulse pumps" that the Vanguards use are weak at best our Bigfoot we had was nothing but issues till we fitted a electric pump.NCT

    ^^Yes what these guys said, the Facet 1.5psi pulse pump is worth its weight in gold fitted to a Vanguard
