Welcome to all the new guys.

Bruce in Western Mpls Metro: how do you plan to use the new Max if you purchase one? Lots of folks around the TC Metro use them for frozen water fishing. Nice to see another person here that got into these machine that long ago. You will find a lot of helpful folks on here that will help with your research. There are some members that are near the TC on both sides of the border. You will find that there have been some great improvments since those early machines first became popular.

    Hello AAtvers!

Hello, just got registered and starting to find my way around 6x6 world. A little about myself, I have been an off roader for 20+ years, starting out on dirt bikes, then jeeps (still in jeeps),and now venturing into the 6x6 world. It all started with a phone call from an old grade school friend a couple years ago, he told me his dad had gave him the family Attex a ST300. He knew I tinkered with motors and wanted to see it run again. So we set up a weekend to bring it over and check it out. It hasn't run right for a long time, so with a little research (and a carb kit) for the tillotson we got it fired. After checking this thing out some more we discovered the JLO 300 had been swapped out for a 340 JLO. He was just happy to hear it again, his dad had bought it back in 1972, and mainly ran it during the winter,as long as the snow wasn't too deep. So while this machine was in my shop, I was going to get familiar with this beast. My bud left it for a couple weeks so i could do a few more repairs, and test drive of coarse! I was hooked, and he was needing a riding partner. The search was on. It didn't take long and I had a lead on one, I was at another friends shop one day when he told me his neighbors uncle just dropped off this old 6x6 for him to get running or get rid of, well the latter happened, I went over to look this thing over and see how busted and cracked up it was, and to my amazment, it was all there, and solid one small stress crack by the headlight, I take a look at the emblem on the side and here is this cat marching through a marsh with snowshoes on his back! Thats cool looking I thought to myself, A little more investigating and heres the word AMPHICAT. I went home to check the web and see if i could find any info on this thing. Sure enough,I found parts, literature, and even vidios on you tube! I gotta have it! So the next day i went back armed with enough info to figure a year and model, engine etc. As close as I can tell its a 1971 or 72,with a sachs 277cc that has great compression! I took it home that day for $200 bucks. Did I mention NON running, I got it home and proceeded to dismantle it right down to pulling the frame out! After a repaint of the frame, and clean up of points, carb, and replace the starter, some assembly began. After a couple weeks I was to the point to try to start it, I had it on saw horses, just the assembled frame, the motor and wiring harness, and a temporary gas tank. I set in a donated battery from my lawnmower and to my amazment this thing ran, after tweeking on the tillotson some more it started to come around and idle, I was shocked! On to degreasing, what a mess, 30 odd years of grime! I had split the two halves of the body so cleaning was a little easier. After that, in goes the frame, axles, linkages, tranny, and then the top half was set on a bead of silicone and rivited in place. I had a friend sell me some old 3-wheeler rims off a couple of yamaha tri-motos he scrapped. I made adapter plates to fit the larger 3-bolt pattern, I had two plates already from an early 70s honda atc 90 I junked, they fit the yamaha rim and the cats flange perfect! My neighbor told me about a place to get tires at great prices, I looked this place up on the web, it's called The tire wharehouse out of Ohio, they had the amphibious tires, I had them send six, the UPS man couldn't figure out why I ordered 6 of the same tires until I took him in the garage and showed him the Cat, he hadn't seen one of those things in years he said. After hours of soaping, swearing, prying and airing up then back down I had a set of mounted tires, being careful not to mount any backwards so they wouldn't "paddle" the water. I bolted them on, set the machine on the ground and rolled it outside for a test spin. Still learning to drive with sticks I rollled around the yard fogging for mosquitoes! It took a little bit to clear out, I think my first batch of premix was a little on the heavy side. A few more adjustments to get it turning better and we were AAtvin. The snow is a blast with these things, my friend with the Attex is already planning some weekend rides this winter, here in northern Indiana. I am currently rebuildind a snowmobile trailer so I can haul my Cat. P.S I will get some pictures on as soon as I figure out how, crazy computers anyway!

    Thumbs down New member here

Hello, let me start out with introducing my self, I'm live in west palm beach florida, married with no kids, My wife and I love the outdoors. We go camping when ever possible. I want to take it up a notch and get an atv but I'm the kind of person that wants to be different so an aatv will be perfect. I have been looking around localy but there are not to many used one around. I did find one location where they sell a brand new max II with a windshield, enclosed cabin canvas thingy (lol), winch. for $7500, I read that they are pretty good and a small two passenger one is perfect for us so we can trail ride with someone with an atv. Where i plan to go the trails are pretty small and only an atv could go through. Also I have a TDI Jetta to tow it with I don't know how much they weight but i'm pretty sure my car will be ok with it. This site is great there is alot of info to be learned I just need to find some time to site and read. Thanks for any info.

Hi AJ, welcome to the site. If you are patient you will probably find something close to you in the used market. Of course, if you are impatient I'm sure a new Max II would do just fine
