I am fabricating bearing cages for max IV my question is.When I install them do I have still have use the locking collar on the bearing at the tub or can I leave them off since there will be one on the outer bearing now. I also have one on the inner bearing plus bolts in the end of the axles inside the frame.
Yes you need the lock collar on all bearings. That is what keeps it tight on the axle preventing the axel from getting worn from the bearing being loose in the axel. I personally have had better luck with the set screw type bearings as I've had lock collars come loose or even break. Good luck with your project.
What it lacks in ground clearance it makes up for with traction.
OK great THANKS for the info tbone. I just started on them I was not sure about that so now I can resume working on them. Once I get one made I will post some pics.
Yes lock all the bearings. I've also been putting a very small string of strip calk between the lock collar and the bearing to seal the axle. Just wrap it on axle and push collar on to push it into bearing. Stops water from coming in around the axles and seams to keep bearings from rusting to axles as bad.

THANKS. I plan on doing one a day of the next week. Rockfish season opens on Saturday so I may get side tracked a little LOL. I don't plan on getting the tracks till next spring just wanted to get this done ahead of time. Once I get all the cages fabbed I will get the machine in the garage and install them.
When I put my bearing cages on I flipped the outer tub bearing around so the lock collar is on the inside of the tub vs inside the bearing cage. My cages are sealed so this was my only option but they are pretty easy to get at for service.
