    T20 transmission upgrade

has anyone ever converted there t-20 with the channel on the plunger to the t-20 with the flat bar. i would assume you have to change bands and plungers and drill and push in a pin where the flat bar pivots. Or has anyone figured out how to alter the the channel one to make it easier to adjust.

    Hey Jeff,

Changing the bands isn't necessary. You do have to drill the case for the pivot shaft on each side, but it's not really a difficult job. The biggest adjustment you have to make, aside from drilling each side of the case for the pivot bolt, is making up for the change in spacing. The "plunger pivot shaft boss" (new term?!?!) on the older T20s is a bit wider than the newer channel style shaft boss, which really only means you'll have to make a bushing to make up the extra space between the flat bars and the eyelets that screw into the plungers. I dont' have pictures. It'll be very obvious once it all goes together and you see the big gap between the flat bar and the eyelets on each side. The easiest way is to just put a bunch of washers between the eyelet and the flat bar. .....Not to say that's the "best" way, but it works, and it'll last.

Thanks hydromike and george i will do some measurements i have the channel style setting on the thunderchief frame and i have my sons t-20 flat bar setting on the floor i think it works not sure shifts and plungers move. When i get the engine on the thunderchief i will test my sons t-20. Thats nice to know that i do not have to switch bands not sure how much lining is on them but they worked great during the test run. If i upgrade it i will show some pics THANKS GUYS
