hi all just bought my first 6x6 so im new to all this started working on my hustler last week found out im gona need a new motor and now not lookin to good on the trans the plungers wont move at all anyways any info on this problem would be a big help
The T-20 transmission you are looking for seems to be a hot item with everyone around here. Alot of them failed due to being ran with improper fluids or rusted solid from sitting. I am from Az so nothing rusts here as long as the rainwater doesn't get to it. I only know of 1 T-20 and it is in a Chapparral. He wants $400 for it and it runs a #40 chain size. I would just assume buy the whole thing for $500 and it is all complete with a 340 JLO/Rockwell engine in it. If this hustler ends up being a money pit and doesn't work out for you I am sure someone on this board has a machine for sale. I have seen some pictures of people putting back together some really rough machines so if someone is lucky enough to hook you up, all hope may not be lost.
As a last ditch effort, try heating up the plunger area with a torch and quenching it with either WD-40 or Marvels mystery oil. Careful because you put that stuff on an area that is too hot it will spontaneusly combust and may do some damage but it will smoke none the less. I would use a bernz-o-matic propane torch for soldering and plumbing (not a small butane pocket torch) to do the job. I wouldn't use a cutting torch unless you have a rosebud or really know what you are doing. If you dont have a bernz-o-matic torch you can pick one up at ace or any big box hardware store, or you may get lucky at wal-mart. As far as engines, there is a bunch of them on the classified forums for sale. I know there may not be snowmobiles in Ar, but look and you may find. I found 5 of them in Tucson ironically enough and that would be a good way to score a motor that will make your machine get up and go.
Before you use heat, start by taking the transmission out of the Hustler (if you haven't already) and turning it to where the plungers are up. Pour oil into the plunger cavities and let it sit for a couple of days. Gradually try to work the plungers in and out. If you do use heat you will probably melt the orings on the plungers which may not matter if you plan on rebuilding it anyway.
