First time poster here. Thanks to all who contribute, it helps a great deal.
I am rebuilding my first Argo. It is a 1985.
When I bought it, I thought I would just build a new seat for it and go enjoy....Right. Nothing works like that.
It has a Tecumseh 16 hp and after I got it going a bit I was very disappointed with the lack of power. I read a post on here regarding putting in a 10 hp diesel from Princess auto. I was inspired and the engine was on sale, so I bought one and pulled my Tecumseh.
I found a gear puller and tried to pull my clutch off....and broke it. Oh, so there is such a thing as a clutch puller? I should have read deeper into the forums first. I checked with my local Argo dealer here and new clutch is $550 (Grande Prairie, Alberta). Too much for me. I found a used Argo that I can buy for parts ($400) and I will use a CLUTCH puller this time. Or, thanks to a poster on this forum I found a new clutch for under $200 that looks like it will work. I could really use some expert opinions on this. 206095A - Model 94 1" Bore 1 3/16 Belt
Can you guys tell me what you think of this clutch? It seems okay. the bore and belt size are right. I just want to make sure I am not missing anything before I buy it.
Thanks all
PS. I recently bought a throttle cable from these guys for something like $2 and change. So cheap I bought 2 of them. I got 2 throttle cables delivered in the mail for about $12. Not bad quality either.
Well , even better. I found this clutch, Which looks exactly the same as mine. It is $226 Which is exactly half what the dealer quoted today. 302405A... - 780 Series Drive Clutch for Feterl Pug ATV
This looks like an exact replacement for mine. The Comet clutches are all back ordered, so this looks like the one I will go with.
I checked with a couple of Argo specialist dealers. The service seemed good. Got right back to me, but their clutches are about $350 and up.
Anyone know where I can buy a puller for this type of clutch?
When you click "Purchase" you will see: NOTE: After Comet suddenly closed their doors last fall another US company purchased most of their production equipment and inventory. We have placed a huge order with them and they are aggressively ramping up production and have made some shipments to us, but most of the clutches and many parts are still in production and currently not available. We will send out Comet parts as soon as they become available based on customer's order date. Feel free to contact us for current availability. Email us or call us at 800-826-8563.
The puller is usually only needed for a 2 stroke clutch on a tapered shaft.
There is a 4 stroke clutch ready for delivery at cart parts plus, which is talked about on a popular golf cart forum here: Big Block Clutch Options
Is the 10hp diesel a 1" straight shaft? I hope it has enough power to get you through the boonies.
