I purchased a 1979 Max 2 last year with a 18 HP B&S engine. The engine required a new carburetor along with a valve job, runs great now. I took the stock machine and customized it by fabricating and installing front and rear racks. Fabricated winch mount including small LED light bar. I was also able to find an original factory windshield that I installed. The machine is red but I blacked out all the accessories and wheels using black Berliner, looks good and is pretty tough. I just recently found an original set of RI tracks for a Max 4 on Craigslist, they were in great shape and cheap so I bought them. I will be cutting the length of the belt and removing a couple of the aluminum cleats to get the correct length for my max 2. Here’s my question Can anyone tell me the correct length to make these. Also how wide of wheel spacers are required to keep from damaging tub? Last question Does anyone have a set of beating cage extensions for this machine that they want to sell or drawings for fabrication? Thanks
The full width rubber tracks are 16” different in the belts between the 4and2. That’s running 21-11-8 tires. I’m not sure about the older two belt tracks. I believe the factory max 2 spacers were 4-3/4”.
