ok so heres the story, a bad bike racing accident left me with a hand that i cant move my right wrist at all. I bought a argo but i am having a hard time driving it. i tried a atv thumb throttle and it was so bad after 10 min i barely made it home . i have a hard time pushing with my tumb.(not a wusey either so dont go there) I ride a 800x renegade and i ride a polaris 800 prox sled ,no problem on either one or my cust chopper .The narrow bars and seem to be the problem,nothing seems to work out.
I am a mechanic and can fabricate anything just wondering if anybody else has had to do anything like this.
Welcome to the site. What model Argo do you have? It sounds like you have an older model with individual sticks for each side instead of the single handlebar steering? If so, and since you don't have problems on your polaris or bike, I would build some wider bars or extend the stock ones out so that you get the wider stance you are looking for. Since those work out for you, just model what you know will work. You may also want to angle the bars back towards the rider at a slight angle
go get a bmx bike brake levers and install that for the throttle. You can then just use a couple of fingers to pull the throttle, works nice. I hated the twist grip and all the bouncing of the machine. I tried the thumb throttle and same thing really aches my thumb on these machines. The pull of the bike handle is very easy and easy to get good throttle control. I also drilled a hole in it so I can pin it open and go hands free, works well for if stuck and need to rock the machine or going in the water. My Vanguard gets tiresome some with the pull on the spring, years ago I had a sled throttle set up on my Tecumseh and liked it ( would be like the Max throttle side ways instead of upright), it only required 2 finger pull. Another option would be a 1/4 turn twist throttle but that would be hard to crawl with.
If all else fails perhaps someone could fab you up a bell crank to change the amount of pull force needed.
