    How to post pictures

    Here's a short "how-to":

-Click on "Gallery" at the top of the page
-To the very right of the screen is a link that says "Upload Photos" ..click that
-Choose the appropriate category that your photo should go under
-Click on browse and find the photo that you want to upload and double click on it
-Enter a title for the photo
-Enter a short description of the photo
-Enter a couple of keywords that people would use if they go to search for your photo
-Click on "Upload/Submit" and you are done!

If you choose to upload several photos at one time then you will be redirected to a screen where you can change the title, description, and keywords for each picture. Then you can hit upload again.

If you are having problems uploading photos, it is usually due to the size of the photos. There is a limit of 6000 kB which is close to 6MB.

There are several methods to resize photos but I will cover the basic way:

If you are going to be taking pictures there is usually a file size setting directly on your camera where you can choose a smaller size and meet the 6MB restriction. However if you already have the pictures here's what you can do:

Open Microsoft Paint if you are running Windows by going to start/all programs/accessories/paint

    -Click on File/Open
-Double click on the picture you are trying to resize
-Under "Stretch" change the values from 100% to something smaller like 50%
-Click on File/Save-As and save your newly resized image
    -You're done!

You may have to play with that value depending on how large your pictures are but normally 50% will do it.

Now you have your pictures in the gallery but how do you put them in the threads?

-Click on the image in the gallery that you want to post
-Scroll down in the "additional info" section and there is a line of code next to "Linked Thumbnail" that looks like this: [url=http://www.6x6world.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/951][img]http://www.6x6world.com/gallery/data/533/thumbs/Max-ii-an
    -Click anywhere on that code
-Hold down Ctrl and hit "C" to copy that code
-Go to the post that you are making and hit Ctrl "V" to paste that code into your post
-That's it. Now you have a thumbnail image that links to your gallery photo!

BMP is a format allowed for uploading. The file size limitation is 6000kb and there isn't a dimensional limitation so your photos should upload fine. Try converting them to another format or even resaving them as a BMP from any photo editing software. There may be some kind of corruption or weird file formatting thing going on with your photos.

This must be an ancient program for this web site. All Jpg pictures are pretty much larger that 6mb which is your limit. I tried to upload six pictures then 2 then 1 and it said they all exceeded the size limit. They ran about 7mb to 10mb. I wanted to show my Max IV and all the home built accessories on it. Guess I won't do it then. Don't have alot of time figuring everything out, should just be able to upload picts like every where else. Thanks.

I have no trouble whatsoever loading photos, and I'm taking photos with a 3 month old smartphone (i.e. contemporary technology).

cameras or camera phones can be adjusted to the size photos they generate as well. Personally I'm not printing posters from my photos, so 10 meg photos are just a waste of memory

I moved your posts from the Video thread to the Photo thread. The reason for the file size limitation is due to server space. The gallery software allows us to set whatever limitation we would like however, I have chosen a limit that allows the majority of photos to be uploaded without resizing them, knowing that there will be a few members that still have to resize really large photos. It's a trade-off as we are not a large corporation with unlimited resources (disk space). Sorry that it has caused an inconvenience for you but you have several options. You can utilize one of the many free batch resizing programs on the web. Here's one I found through a quick Google search: Free Online Picture Resizer - Crop and Resize photos, images, or pictures online for FREE! You can adjust your camera settings so that it doesn't take the maximum resolution. You can upload to the site your are accustomed to and simply hotlink directly into your thread without using the gallery at all. Any of those should work. Hope that helps.
